handy.de / arvato mobile

handy.de Website Stand: 03.2007

Having met the founders Thorsten Rehling, Dirk Freise and Martin Ostermayer a couple of month earlier due to my internship at the press agency fluxx.com new communications, I joined handy.de in Sept. 2000. Since I had already opened up my own business in the mobile telecommunications sector in 1997, the decision to join them didn’t take me long.

At handy.de, I was responsible for the mobile entertainment department, whereas at that time no one actually expected mobile entertainment to become a big business one day. My first responsibilities were buying content and getting it into the system. Soon the market grew and I specialized on the music sector only, since the music industry began to claim rights and royalties on ringtones.

handy.de was sold to Gruner+Jahr in 2001 and afterwards bought by Bertelsmann in 2002. The company name was first changed into bemobile GmbH and later into arvato mobile GmbH which made us part of the arvato group.

I left the company in May 2005 to take a couple of months off. I went to australia and came back at the beginning of February 2006.

It was not my intention to join arvato mobile again, but since the managing director really wanted me back, it was only up to me to made the decision. Finally, I rejoined the company as Director B2B, being responsible for the non-operator business. In fact I was in charge of the record labels, handset manufacturers and some corporate business.

I resigned in March 2007 and left arvato mobile one month later, at which point most of the management had already left.
